Goa - not the one we know ...

Its the Goa season. But this is the Goa that I have not seen. One hour from Panjim, the scenery, and the colours changes . Not beaches, but hills . The blues become green. Not parties, but solitude...Its beautiful, green and quiet . At Chorla Ghats , the wildnest resort is nestled between the borders of Karnataka , Maharashtra and Goa .

We chanced on this resort when we were desperate to get away from the corporate life. It was an overnight decision that made us book our tickets and make good our escape . It was replete with treks , looking for waterfalls, scouting for small snakes and a bit of bird watching.

Or you can just drink and sleep and rest all those blues .As fugitives, we sought refuge in nature, before getting back to the Goa,which we all know ...
Getting there This part of Goa is nestled in the Chorla Ghats which is in the karnataka-maharashtra-goa border .Its in the Swapnagandha valley . Its equidistant from panjim -65 kms or from Belgaum -60 kms .

Switzerland 12/17: Heathrow to Basel to Zurich

Our trip to Switzerland for the pre-holidays was wonderful and very festive. It was mighty cold - below freezing the entire time - but it never snowed. That was okay, though, as we had some blue-sky days in the cities and we still got to enjoy the snow during our day in the Alps. Thanks to good old Heathrow Airport our trip didn't begin very smoothly, although it could have been much

Wine Tasting in Thailand

Inspired by the movie Sideways, Bangkok recorder took a road trip to the wineries of Khao Yai to marvel at the mountainous countryside, knock back some wine, and crash our rental car.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park Thailand Travel

As you probably noticed the first time you ordered wine in Thailand, a bottle is often more expensive than a bountiful dinner. Stupendously high taxes ensure that anything more than the house red or white usually stays down in the cellar.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park Thailand Travel

Wine Tasting in Thailand Unscrupulous importing methods and over-zealous domestic tax inspection have created an unlevel playing field for Thai wines. The kingdom’s general wine consumption had been rising steadily until the economic crash of ninety-seven turned everyone back onto whisky. However, in the last few years, Thailand has been rekindling its love of wine, and even making some decent vino itself.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park Thailand Travel

Traditionally, grapes used for wine-making have only been grown between the 30th and 50th parallels in the northern and southern hemispheres. However, Thailand has managed to produce wine in a narrow band in the north between the 14th and 18th parallels. Years of research, testing and development have pushed the boundaries of viticulture, and given us ‘New Latitude Wines’.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park

To borrow a verdict from Sideways' Miles Raymond, the general consensus on Thai wine so far, has been: “quaffable, but uh... far from transcendent.” However, this view is definitely changing as Thai wine-making comes of age. The country's grape wine industry is still in the early stages: the first wine grape vines were only planted in Loei Province in 1991. However, Khao Yai followed two years later and is now expanding to become the home of Thai wine. The region has always been a popular weekend getaway for Bangkokers, lying a neighbourly 150km away.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park

We hopped in a rental from Lumpini Car Rent for 1000 THB-a-day and hit the open road. The drive to Khao Yai is surprisingly pleasant and straight-forward, taking less than two hours. Just don’t forget to bring a car adaptor for your iPod, unless you are uncommonly keen on ‘Country FM’.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park

The GranMonte Family Vineyard in Khao Yai’s Asoke Valley was first on our trail. Stepping out of the car into a serene vineyard flanked with mountains after several weeks trapped in Bangkok was quite a shock to the system. GranMonte’s home cooking style restaurant, Vin Cotto, acts as a great decompression chamber from the city.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park

The food and warm service are better than most places in Bangkok, and you can take in the scenery of Khao Yai Park’s Thailand Travel mountain range as you try the various wines. The prevailing opinion is that GranMonte produces the best white wine in Thailand.

A Wine tasting trip to Kao Yai National Park

It’s 2004 Kirimaya Chenin Blanc has a toasty, nutty scent and goes very well with Vin Cotto’s duck salad. It seems extraordinary that the vineyard began as an idea for GranMonte’s CEO, Khun Visooth Lohitnavy, just ten years ago. It’s all in the grapes, according to Khun Visooth: “The winemaker can only make good wine from good grapes. He can also make bad wine from good grapes if he is lousy.” The vineyard hosts a Wine Festival in October and a Harvest Festival in February, where you can join in picking the grapes before a judging of the best picks.

Thai Trips Tumble to Australia

Thai Travellers Opt For Similarly Priced European Packages or Stay Closer to Home in Asia .

Tourism Australia ’s Thailand Travel office manager, Thongchai Wibulsaksakul said the number of Thai visitors to Australia fell 6% during September compared to the same month last year.

Mr Thongchai

said the drop in performance is mostly due to the similarity in package prices between Australia and Europe , and passengers prefer travelling to Europe , as it involves varied multi-destination options using a single visa.

Thais also tend to select Asian destinations

such as Japan and Korea , during an economic slowdown, as short-haul trips are less expensive. Of the total outbound trips, 80 persent visited neighbouring Asian countries, while only 20 persent headed for Europe , the Americas , South Africa and Australia .

Mr. Thongchai

added that next year Tourism Australia is planning to integrate its management resources to boost outbound figures, and is now in the process of negotiating with partners and airlines to finalise deals.

Thailand Popular Korean Drama Princess Hours

Princess HoursThailand popular Korean drama Princess Hours (Goong). After watching the very popular Korean drama Princess Hours (Goong), I can't help but think that this drama series was created for maximum viewer ratings because it caters to both viewers who like historical drama serials like Dae Jang Geum (with its palace intrigues) and viewers who are into trendy modern comedies like My Girl or My Lovely Samsoon (complete with a spunky and cute heroine in tow).

Korean drama Princess Hours (Goong)

Princess Hours or more commonly known as Goong (2006) is a romantic korean drama. Story evolves around the current Crown Prince of the Korean royal family (This is just a fiction. Korea is no longer ruled by kings). The story started off with a deal made by the previous emperor and his good friend that their grandchildren will get married to each other. At that time, the royal grandchild intended was Yul but when Yul’s dad (Crown Prince at that time) died in an accident, then Shin (Joo Ji Hoon), Yul’s cousin, took over as the Crown Prince after the emperor passed away.

Korean drama Princess Hours (Goong)Story

But Shin has someone whom he liked (Hyo Rin) and decided to propose to her. Shin was rejected so he agreed to take up the arranged marriage with Chae-kyung (Yoon Eun Hye). However, he still hangs around with Hyo Rin quite often. Meanwhile, Yul who just came back from overseas, fell in love with Chae-kyung. As both Shin and Chae-kyung are now the Crown Prince and Princess of Korea, their quite intimate relations with Hyo Rin and Yul respectively creates rumours after rumours, which jeopardise the status of the royal family.

Korean drama Princess Hours (Goong)Story

After living with Chae-kyung for long, Shin began to like her. But will he be too late to prevent Yul from taking her? At the end of this drama, there was a little unexpected twist but still an acceptable one. Anyway, Princess Hours 2 is in the making.

Thung Salaeng Luang in Phetchabun, Thailand Travel

Seventeen mammal species, including elephant, yellow-throated marten and masked palm civet, are confirmed as park dwellers. A significant number of others are possible residents. These include tiger, barking deer, wild dog, wild pig, languor and slow lorries. A 1987 study estimated that between five and 20 elephants survived in the park. The best places to see wildlife are on the park's meadows and, during the dry season, around ponds and salt licks.

Thailand Travel Thung Salaeng Luang in Phetchabun

Thung Salaeng Luangthere is a large salt lick at Pong Sai in the northwest and Pong Thung Phya in the southwest. More than 190 bird species have been confirmed, among them species of heron, eagle, partridge, pheasant, pigeon, owl, swift,, barbet, woodpecker, bulbul, babbler, warbler, flycatcher and flowerpecker.

Thailand Travel Thung Salaeng Luang in Phetchabun

A prominent resident is the Siamese fireback pheasant, a leading candidate for Thailand's national bird because it was once so common and frequently referred to in classical Thai literature. it also once helped to advertise the country. A pair was sent to Napoleon III of France in 1862 along with diplomatic envoys, eliciting interest in both the exotic animal and its place of origin. The sleek, handsome male has a red face, long, narrow tail, gray upper plumage and a black underside. the he is chestnut-reddish and lacks head and tail adamants.

Highlights Thung Salaeng Luang in Phetchabun

Thung Nang Phaya Three outstanding meadows are embedded within park boundaries.
Thailand Travel Thung Salaeng Luang is a 10 square kilometer sea of savanna grass in the southeast surrounded by forests and hills. Some of the meadow was turned into rice paddies by the Communist guerrillas. First-time visitors are often surprised to suddenly come upon such a great expanse of open space hemmed in by dense forests. the meadow's 800 meter elevation makes it comfortable for trekking even in the summer when temperatures average an agreeable 18 Celcius.

Thung Nang Phaya

But the ideal time for hiking to and exploring the meadows is during the early part of the cool season. Thailand Travel Thung Salaeng Luang is reached by two routes. there is 40 kilometer long trail running south from park headquarters to the meadow but it can only be negotiated by 4-Wheel drive vehicles and then only during the dry season. The other option is arriving via the Khao Kor-Phetchabun road which runs southeast of the park and turning off at Nong Mae Na. A gravel road leads to the park boundary and meadow.

Thung Nang Phaya

in the southwest, is a favorite camping site, known for its stunning combination of meadow and pine trees. It can most easily be reached from the Nong Mae Na entry to the park, with 4-Wheel drive cars recommended, especially during the rainy season. Thung Non son is situated on a plateau deep in the park's center, its more tan 11,000 hectares resplendent with large clusters of flowers which bloom September to November. this meadow is best explored with guides since reaching it requires a difficult effort by 4-Wheel drive vehicle and facilities are non-existent at the site.

Thung Nang Phaya

From park headquarters, drive along the same road as leads to Thung Salaeng Luang for 15 kilometers until reaching a turn-off to the right. From there it is an 18 kilometer trek along a mountain ridge to Thung Non son. Among the many lovely flowers found on the park's meadows is the “Bang meowing”, a small, frail orchid with sept-back petals which is literally translated as running horse orchid. Others are the “Phung Chomphu”, or pink garland, a purple flower with three large petals. Kradum Ngern, silver button, a white flower the size of the small finger, Yad Nam Khang, dripper of dew, a small, light brown flower which thrives on morning dew, and Mokhaw Mokaeng Ling, a greenish ground flower which loosely translates as monkey's pots and pans. Standard English names do not exist for a number of flowers found in Thailand.

Niagara Falls of Thailand

Dubbed the “Niagara Falls of Thailand,” Kaeng Sopha is one of the country's most beautiful. the three-tiered waterfall, shaped like a stairway, is found very near kilometer 68 of the Phitsanuloke-Lomsak Highway. Food stalls, rest rooms and a tourist information center are located at the waterfall. Three kilometers from the park office an 80 meter long cable stayed bridge spanning the Khek Yai River. the river banks are pleasant for picnics and the Khek Yai is ideal for dips in the dry season although dangerous during the rains when the current flows too rapidly.

Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui Thailand Travel

Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui , Thailand Travel remains the most beautiful on the island. Wandering down from your coconut palm-shaded hut to the white-dust sand to the crystal clear water is an unforgettable experience. It's just a shame that today you have such a short window of opportunity to enjoy it - between sunrise and 7am, at the most.

Thailand Travel Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui

Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui After that the deckchairs, vendors, masseurs, jet-skis and other noisy stuff begin their parade and within a few hours, it's a mess. Of course, if you like all that hustle and bustle, you'll love Chaweng beach. Chaweng beach has something for everyone, but the bulk of accommodation is aimed at package tours and mid-range travellers looking to spend around 1,500 to 4,000B a night.

Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui Thailand Travel

A few places are priced at under 500B but they are few and far between, and grotty. It's also easy to spend more than 4,000B. Be aware that theft is on the rise, especially at the cheaper places. When going out for the day, make sure that all your windows and doors are closed and locked. Chaweng Beach - Koh Samui - ThailandAt night, if your windows are not screened -- rare now -- keep your bags under your bed as crafty thieves have been known to use hooked poles to drag items out while you sleep.

Accommodation Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui

Also beware if you check into a room with an open-air bathroom, which have become the latest rage. Make sure that the bathroom door can be locked -- and keep it locked -- as it's easy for thieves to jump walls and get in. If at night you wake up while being robbed, stay where you are and do not make eye contact with the thief.

Facilities Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui

Do not struggle, as robberies do turn violent. Development at Chaweng continues on its merry way, with five-star hotels shooting up alongside western junk food outlets luring already-fat tourists inside and an array of international restaurants. Then of course there's the clubs, bars, girlie bars, massage parlours, CD and DVD shops, tailors, and the rest, all designed to peel those hundred baht notes out of your wallet.

Travel in Chaweng Beach

Fake shoe shops are the latest rage, with shopfront after shopfront selling ripoff Nikes and Adidas runners. Don't you go to the beach to buy shoes? Bird's Eye View of Chaweng Beach Koh SamuiThe most obvious sign of Chaweng's unbridled development is that its main road still horribly floods after even the briefest of rain-storms. Due to the substantial loss of the island's trees, waves diluted red by topsoil wash down to fill the road -- Amazing Thailand, indeed.
Thailand Travel matters like urban planning, aside Chaweng is a great place to lay on the beach to get that great tan you can't get at home, eat lots of mid-range priced food from your home country, and head to a club to meet strangers to have sex with. Well, that's what the bulk of Chaweng's visitors seem to be up for, and if that's why you're coming to Thailand, enjoy.

What about the saying, ’Thailand is supposed to have the most beautiful transvestites and transsexuals in the world’ , may be he looks too much like a ‘she’.

Hunt begins for TAT governor in Thailand

There was no queue of applicants prepared to present their credentials for the vacant post of TAT Governor on 5 October the first day for applications.
TAT governor in ThailandTourism Authority of Thailand has announced the search for a new governor will run until 31 October while officials acknowledged no one showed up on the first day.

TAT governor selection committee president

Kriangsak Lohochala said applicants may need time to prepare the necessary documentation, which includes a five-page paper on their vision for the tourism industry and how he or she plans to manage the authority.

TAT governor in Thailand Travel

There is also the possibility that TAT officials are reluctant to present their applications until the political situation is clearer. In the past TAT executives who were unsuccessful were often demoted or placed in non-active posts by the successful candidate, who has always been an insider.

TAT governor in Thailand

It is possible high ranking officials are watching each other carefully to see who will make the first move. It is unlikely that TAT executives will compete for the post against each other knowing the penalty that accompanies failure.

Mr Kriangsak said

the new governor must not be older than 60 years of age as of the application date, should not be on a current TAT committee and cannot be involved in politics.

Koh Chang Trad in Thailand

Koh Chang Located in the eastern part of Thailand Travel, Koh Chang is close to the border of Cambodia. Around 85 percent of Koh Chang , along with 50 smaller islands, is part of the Thailand Travel Koh Chang Marine National Park. Clear waters of various blue shades surround the island while a terrain of high peaks and steep cliffs provide magnificent scenic points.

In a matter of years, Koh Chang

Koh Chang Koh Chang has undergone a huge change. Back then, only the simplest accommodation was offered. But now, Koh Chang is a boom town where the range has extended from economically priced bungalows to luxury resorts. To maintain the landscape of Koh Chang as unspoiled possible, a law has been enforced to limit the height of buildings on the island at 3 storeys. Water treatment system is required for new construction projects whereas island residents are discouraged for cutting down trees.

Thailand Travel Koh Chang In 2003

Koh Chang was able to get a special status that meant less bureaucratic management while the government would finance infrastructure like waste water treatment facilities, garbage treatment sites and piers. While it is a place that faces more rapid growth, the community

tries its best to maintain an ecologically sound environment

Majority of the resorts in Koh Chang are thatched roof bungalows sitting on spacious land and long beaches. At the same time, plush hotels and resorts providing luxury services with modern architecture and amenities are fast becoming more numerous.

The beaches of Thailand Travel Koh Chang

The beaches are like characters from a fiction story which have their own trait. The most notable, White Sand Beach, is where most people get together. Restaurants, resorts, bars and pubs scatter the area making it the place to go to for nighttime entertainment. Klong Prao Beach (Had Khlong Prao) is distinct because of its more serene environment. Good for those who seek a calm and quiet vacation. The most popular area for those on a tight budget is Kai Bae Beach. Many backpacker-type accommodation are strewn on the area, but are nevertheless of good quality.

Activities Koh Chang

A wide variety of activities are available on the island. A boat trip to smaller satellite islands of the national park is the most common way of spending free time. The beach is only one of the many places to take a dip into. Trek into the interior of the island, and take a plunge in the cool waterfalls. Aside from getting a tan and a massage, a tattoo is just one of the several things that you can take home with you as a souvenir of your vacation.

Kanjanaburi: Graves - War Cemetery in Thailand

Thailand Travel Kanchanaburi, Thailand (AP) -- Rod Beattie sweeps a metal detector over a watermelon field along the River Kwai where six decades ago 2,000 Allied prisoners of war perished. The detector buzzes, and the wiry Australian anxiously claws the earth with his bare hands.

This is just brilliant

" he says, breaking up a clod of soil to reveal a brass badge, a neat likeness of a propeller airplane perhaps crafted by a captured airman longing for the free, blue skies.

Graves - War Cemetery in Thailand

Sweating under the tropical sun, the 54-year-old Australian places the find alongside razors, toothbrushes and belt buckles, surmising these may have been items cremated with prisoners who succumbed to cholera and other diseases at the Chungkai hospital camp.

Graves - War Cemetery in Thailand

Kanjanaburi Graves War Cemetery in ThailandThe fruit of this morning's excavation is headed for a bulging repository of artifacts from the Death Railway, which spelled the deaths of some 100,000 Allied POWs and Asian slave laborers forced to build a line between Thailand and Myanmar for the Japanese army during World War II.

the best of these items

Beattie explains, may find their way into displays of the Thailand-Burma Railway Center, a world-class museum recently opened after four years of painstaking effort by Beattie and several colleagues passionate about telling the story minus the myths and misinformation.

Graves - War Cemetery in Thailand Travel

Until then, Kanchanaburi was poorly served by two small, rather shabby museums and Thai tourist guides who often pass on meager, or outright, fictitious stories. This despite an industry built around the railway, bridge and river which have attracted millions of tourists and piles of cash since Hollywood released its classic film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" in 1957.

Thailand Travel The Bridge on the River Kwai

Beattie says he strived for an unbiased presentation through information panels, photographs, artifacts, video clips and an interactive, detailed topographical map of the 258-mile railway, its stations and POW camps. The collection includes rare Japanese photographs provided by Ranichi Sugano, believed to be the last surviving senior engineer from the railway.

The museum doesn't stint on displays of Japanese cruelty

depicting POWs turned into walking skeletons while hacking through disease-ridden jungles under their captors' guns. But neither does it portray all Japanese soldiers as brutes nor their railway engineers as blustering incompetents.

This place will never be finished

Conditions varied from camp to camp, Japanese soldiers were also subjected to harsh punishment from their officers and some POWs developed decent relations with their guards. Beattie points out that a third of the 10,000 Japanese prisoners under British control in post-war Singapore perished, whereas less than 23 percent of British POWs on the railway died.

The museum has drawn praise from both Japanese visitors and former POWs

"Bloody brilliant," wrote John Reid, of Brisbane, Australia, in the guest book). And even those far too young to remember the war are moved by the displays and a view from the museum's second floor: 6,982 crosses of the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

This place will never be finished

It's organic. As I find and discover more things we'll have more to explain and exhibit," says Beattie, a civil engineer from Gympie, Queensland, who became deeply involved with this slice of history in 1994 when he was consulting for a sapphire mining company in Kanchanaburi.

The Bridge on the River Kwai museum

He was later appointed caretaker of the area's two cemeteries by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. A third POW burial ground is located in Myanmar, also known as Burma.

Before the advent of the museum, which opened in January, Beattie had logged some 1,240 miles on foot mapping the railway, clearing sections of the invading jungle and collecting artifacts.

Beattie, who funded a large chunk of the museum's costs from his own pocket, says he's prepared to borrow against his successful gem-cutting business to keep it going.

The Rollright Stones

Saturday morning we went to see the Rollright Stones, a stone circle and other monuments dating from 4000-1500 BC. They were interesting, and best of all were only 20 miles from Oxford. They are on a small hilltop in the village of Little Rollright (hence the name) and there were really nice views of the countryside in both directions. The King's MenThe monuments all have great whimsical names,

An afternoon at Magdalene College

We had a beautiful sunny day yesterday, so I thought I'd get away from the computer for once and take my camera for a walk around town. I had a pretty good time and a nice walk, but as always, the blue sky went away before I got to take very many photos! Argh. I went ahead and took some pictures of the University Parks and Magdalene College anyway, so here's a few of 'em. (There's a few more in

Atta Ready for Suvarnabhumi Airport

 Suvarnabhumi Airport
According to Association of Thai Travel Agents president, Apichart Sankary, ground facilities that will provide fast and efficient transfers for passengers to Suvarnabhumi Airport are crucial factors.

Suvarnabhumi Airport can surely become Asia’s

aviation hub but it needs to establish infrastructure to deliver passengers from the city to the airport conveniently and fast. The train from downtown must deliver service quality and so must the ground staff working at the airport,” he said.

Mr Apichart made the comments as Thai Airways International completed its first landing at the new airport this morning, 29 September.

Atta will establish an office and parking area at the new airport and is requesting space from King Power Company, which is responsible for the area. It requires about 150 sq m for its meet-and-greet services and around 200 to 300 sq m for the operational offices responsible for collecting and keeping data documents.

“In additional, we are requesting a tour bus parking area from the Airports of Thailand Public Company possibly as big as 3 to 4 rai, enough to accommodate 100 tour buses,” Mr Apichartsaid.

Aatt has a parking area for up to 50 buses at Don Muang Airport.

TAT held a crisis meeting this morning to assess cancellation and decided the travel show will go on as planned.

The show must go on. That’s the final word from the Tourism Authority of Thailand following a meeting this morning where officials did a fast damage assessment of the TTM due to open next early next week.

The show must go on

Officials confirmed to TTR Weekly there had been cancellations from some US and Canadian buyers. It is very likely that sellers from Yunnan and Guangxi provinces will not attend despite already having confirmed booths.

TAT officials acknowledged that there could be more cancellations, but nothing like what this particular event suffered just a week after the September 11 2001 terrorist attack in New York. The 2001 TTM, which was held in Pattaya, lost about 20 percent of its confirmed buyers.

There have been some minor casualties

Best Western Asia Pacific confirmed today that it will not host the TTM golf competition, due to the fallout from the coup that successfully ousted caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

There are still about 20 buyers left on the golf list prepared to one day before the TTM opens. This publication will now host golf and dinner.
As of this morning 209 buyers confirmed attendance and 369 sellers affirmed their commitment to attend.

Entertainment at Nana Plaza, Bangkok, Thailand

Nana Plaza full name Nana Entertainment Plaza or NEP is an entertainment venue, located close to the entrance of soi 4 on Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, Thailand. It is easily reached from the Nana BTS (skytrain) station. Just opposite Nana Plaza is the long established Nana Plaza Hotel.

The entertainment at Nana Plaza

Nana Plaza is not family oriented. There are about 40 bars. Most are bars where girls dance on stage in bikini outfit. However, there are also a lot of outside beer bars where you can just sit and enjoy the scene. The Big Mango Bar is a place on the second floor up right at the entrance where you can also enjoy a decent hamburger.

At night

till about 1 A.M. when everything is closed down, the place is packed with people. For health conscious visitors, please be advised that music sound levels are quite high, and smoking is allowed in the bars, so expect a little coughing a day after your visit.

Visiting Nana Plaza

is moderately expensive. Beer and other drinks are priced at 125 baht. The girls working there will hassle you to buy drinks for them too, at about the same prices.

Entertainment venues in Bangkok

Other similar entertainment venues in Bangkok are Soi Cowboy, located between Sukhumvit Road Soi 21 Asoke road and Soi 23, and Patpong, located on Silom Road. All are connected with the Bangkok BTS (skytrain) system, which however stops operating around midnight.

Wat Rong Khun Chiang Rai in Thailand

Wat Rong Khun Chiang Rai
Wat Rong Khun is very different to any of temple you are likely to see in Thailand. A lifetime project of artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the temple has a fine blend of traditional Buddhist art with contemporary themes.

The temple is almost entirely white

no other colours are used at all. It is though decorated with small pieces of mirrored glass which add substantially to the temple’s spacious and airy feel. Designed to be viewed in moonlight, if you can manage to get there when the moon is out it’s worth the effort – very nice indeed. This temple is certainly worth a visit unless you have limited time.

Wat Rong Khun was a local

selection of places to visit during our stay in Chiang Rai. We did not know this temple until our Thai friend told us about it as it was not covered in any of our English tour books, but we found it in our Thai guide book.

It is a very different temple

Wat Rong Khun Chiang Rai
very artistic and it doesn't really compare with any temple we had seen so far. The temple is the works of the Thai artist artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and it is well visited on the weekends by Thai people.

Wat Rong Khun Chiang Rai in Thailand

There were busloads of people on the temple grounds and in the nearby gallery. It was still being constructed, or shall I say created, when we visited in December of 2004. The artist sees it as a "creation of the Buddhist Artwork for the Motherland...for the Auspicious Offering to the Lord Buddha". Different but impressive
