Ayutthaya is situated about 76 kilometers north of Bangkok, covers 2,556 square kilometers, and is administratively divided into 16 districts (or Amphurs) as follows: Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakorn Luang, Ban Phraek, Bang Saiy, Ban Sai, Lard Bua Luang, Pha Chi, Bang Ban, Maharat, Bang Pa Han, Sena, U-Thai, Bang Pa In, Phak Hai, Tha Rua, Wang Noi.

Since 1977, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has recognized Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park which occupies a part of central Ayutthaya as a World Heritage site until its official listing in December 13, 1991 at Carthage, Tunisia.

Throughout the 417 years as Thailand’s capital city, Ayutthaya served as an important foundation of Thai civilization and rich cultural developments despite the damage incurred from the battles with Burma and our own pilferage of ancient artifacts. The remaining remnants of Ayutthaya reflect the wisdom and skills of our ancestors who helped create the rich cultural heritage and stability to the country.
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park
Since 1977, UNESCO’s World Heritage committee has recognized Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park which occupies a part of central Ayutthaya as a World Heritage site until its official listing in 13 December, 1991 at Carthage, Tunisia together with Sukhothai-Sri Satchanalai and Kamphaeng-Petch which are protected under international pacts.
