Friday we toured Battle Abbey, which was built on the site of the Battle of Hastings in October 1066 to atone for all the bloodshed. It was a Benedictine monastery, as most Norman abbeys were, and was expanded over the years until it was destroyed by King Henry VIII in the 1500s.The tour included the remaining monastic buildings (sadly not including the abbey church, which was razed to the ground
